I genuinely believe you cannot be a centrist when speaking about ICE or immigration policies. “ICE is wrong but entering a country illegally is wrong too”No one is illegal - a person cannot be illegal. What are we even talking about??

They mean they are there illegally. Most countries don’t have open borders… That said I’m very anti ICE. Deportation should only be done with due process. ICE is just a massive bully abuser and traffickers

The U.S had open boarders for much of its history up until 1920s. And still thereafter for many countries until 1965. Undocumented immigration became illegal in 1965 but that literally didn’t didn’t stop millions of poor people from fleeing to the US. Through harmful trade agreements and a history of neocolonialism - the U.S has deliberately made life difficult for many people outside of our country.

You can’t make life difficult people and then not take responsibility. That’s all I’m saying.

I KNOW what the statement means and I still fully disagree with it. Growing up I was taught that the best thing about being an American was that literally ANYONE had the opportunity to become one - what little pride I have left in this country is quickly dying because that sentiment is being squashed on a daily basis. Make the immigration process simpler for people obviously trying to escape from dangerous situations and make a better life for themselves. Again a person cannot be illegal.

If people in the U.S can barely pass the citizenship test when given it how tf are people on the outside supposed to? It’s completely unfair and unreasonable.

a person cannot be illegal, but a person can be undocumented or out of legal immigration status, which puts them at risk in many modern countries

I’m sure not more at risk then the circumstances they’re fleeing from but we’ll agree to disagree I guess.

Also that’s easily fixable by just making them citizens lmao. I dunno why people are making this more complicated then it is

You are advocating for open borders… but no one else does that

you probably skipped some history classes at high school, if open borders with automatic citizenship worked, at least one successful modern country would already be doing it but NONE do

getting citizenship is HARD to get because it affects a country’s safety, economy, and political system, it’s the same in every country lmaooo

I think you’re deliberately misreading what I’m saying? I’m not saying open borders, I’m saying make the process easier people. Dunno how you got that from what I’m saying but okay

undocumented immigration was already ILLEGAL in 1965, and many other countries already had immigration laws by 1965 for a long time, and the argument about trade and neocolonialism is NOT HISTORICALLY PROVEN idk what are u on. I m immigrant my self, and i am completely aware of the immigration process and why is it important for countries to have strict immigration laws. By just making everyone a citizen will not fix any problems. double check ur facts before posting:)
