You are centering on a low-level technical skills (existing shortcomings), rather than thinking about her existing and transferable skills. Being bilingual is a big deal, regardless of ESL. At 58, she has diff needs diff job opportunities than someone 20-40. Can she lead and manage others, and how many at a time? Can she manage longterm projects? How long? Can she think on her feet really well in certain situations, or otherwise quick to adapt, and what are those situations?

Plus, my mom speaks English very very well with minimal accent, but having English as a second language is a HUGE barrier when looking for a job, especially someone at her age… That, combined with struggling with technology… it’s an uphill battle

I can help. Do you think there is any basic computer stuff that your mom doesn’t know or is struggling to do? I would advice to show her those things

That’s the thing… my mother has never been in a “management” role, and she’s not interested in something at the leadership level. She’s also not very quick to adapt, but that’s why I’m trying to help her hone certain skills, so she feels more comfortable trying. Her previous job was a remote health insurance customer service agent. Before that, she was a banking customer service rep, so we’re exploring, similar jobs & fields. She just wants something basic to keep herself going yk?
