People just use this as an excuse to discriminate against lgbt people. Baking a cake, as a Christian baker, for a gay couple is just part of your job. It doesn’t go against your religion. A religion that tells you to love your neighbors and put aside your hate and prejudices. But most catholic people forget what Jesus was about. He accepted everyone, gay, straight, black, white, tax collector, or prostitute.

Oh so baking a cake as an action HAS to endorse everything the occasion the cake is for stands for, but voting for a PROVEN NOT POTENTIAL child predator in a national election does NOT have to endorse everything that person stands for? Did I get that right? What fundamental difference between those two actions warrants baking a cake having a stronger moral weight than a vote in an election that will affect millions? Btw irregardless is not a word, stop trying to sound so smart.

Also if the action will occur regardless of the vote or the agreement to bake the cake, then why are we allowing a person to PREY ON CHILDREN?? Gays will just go to another bakery, and that monster will just find a different way to feed his sick desires. Standing on your religious beliefs to this degree requires such hairsplitting that it’s frankly concerning that you’re willing to defend this man to this degree on a topic as universally immoral and hated as child sexual assault

Not really the argument I’m making. The cake is with the sole purpose of directly completing the wedding, after which there is marriage and some expectations of the relationship (parenthood, loving) but an unknown future. The vote is with the sole purpose of completing the election of a candidate, after which there is inauguration and some expectations of the presidency (oath, perhaps certain legislations) but an unknown future. The difference is, the marriage is integral to the wedding,

and performed wrongly is ill-advised. The sexual assault, which assuming is true, has nothing to do with the actual election process of casting the vote. What might be equivalent is participating in some sort of election fraud which is ill-advised.

upvote -2 downvote
default user profile icon
Anonymous replying to -> #2 6w

Even then just comparing the two is very stretched because the vote in itself doesn’t actually mean you conform with everything of the candidate. It’s an act of trust and faith that your expectations are met and that your candidate will do the right thing, which is simply the personal and in-effect dynamic of the vote, whereas the cake is very simply a completion in the physical and interpersonal sense.

upvote -1 downvote
default user profile icon
Anonymous replying to -> #2 6w

now you can certainly have a range of blame for the vote in terms of legislative and policy actions, although your vote is really only allowing the guest in the house, not giving them exact instructions on what to do when inside. Regardless of that, the vote isn’t intrinsically a part of the personality unless that is some element to why you did vote.

And for trafficking it rose significantly under Biden with 1656 charged(not including uncharged) with that number dropping 26% under trump.
