Why can’t we call fat people fat like they’re a protected class or something? I understand that you should just crack mean jokes but why can’t we just call them fat?

They’re not a protected class and you can call them fat. It’ll just expose you for the asshole that you are though. It’s literally as simple as that

You can call us fat but it’s not like it’ll do anything. We are aware we’re fat

Cuz as a society we’ve deemed it better to prioritize empathy even when it leads to bad behavior / consequences

Sometimes people deserve to be called it. Like the girl on TikTok that goes to stores, tries on clothes she knows she won’t fit in (normally 2xl) bc she’s 5xl, rips the clothes, then complains about ripping the clothes.

I’m not saying say mean jokes. I’m asking why do I have to avoid saying it whenever it would come up naturally

I’ve known fat people to tear up at the mere mention that someone notices that they’re fat. I agree it’s uncanny but I promise it has happened.

Oh i see what you mean. It seems like its just a word but it makes enough people feel badly about themselves that its become nicer to use a different word. No one’s forcing you to use a different word but its like if someone called you by a degrading nickname you don’t really like. Its not illegal to call you that but it definitely makes you think that they don’t respect you as a person

And its different than describing someone as“the short/tall person” simply because of the way it makes people feel, not because it’s linguistically or objectively any different
