It’s stupid that it’s a thing that exists, but now that it is it’s the better option to tip them, and restaurants just abuse that fact so they can get away with not paying their servers well

it’s an awkward position where employers pay them less expecting tips and the only way to change that is by removing tipping culture and demanding that employers pay more. however, before things change that hurts innocent workers which is why I tip. that being said i hate tipping culture and frankly it is not my responsibility to pay wages, I pay for the food I order

My issue with this is putting that the responsibility on the employer only raises prices for you, meaning regardless, the responsibility to pay wages falls on the consumer. Hourly pay = more expensive dishes. Tip culture = affordable meals and the opportunity to gift your server a reflection of the effort they provided you.

Because the server you just ran around hand and foot deserves compensation for their effort? Regardless of whether it’s tipping or hourly, the money is coming from the consumer. It’s just a matter of you choosing what the server deserves based on quality or paying double for the same food you were getting before
