I am more curious: Do y’all hate AI, or do y’all hate the people that are using AI irresponsibly? Cuz for me I’m using Claude and it helped me solved my problem with running a fluid dynamic simulation and now I have tons of notes to study and review AND I learned new stuff. Do I hate AI? No. Do I hate people irresponsibly using AI? Yes.

AI is already being used for cancer detection, medical imaging analysis, drug discovery, protein folding, stroke detection, fraud prevention, accessibility tools for disabled people, emergency dispatch triage, etc etc etc. I’m an EMT (the person who responds to 911 calls), a CS masters student, and work with dispatch centers optimizing stationing so I CAN RESPOND TO YOUR 911 CALLS FASTER BECAUSE OF AI

Also, there are significantly more golf courses in the world then data centers and have exsisted for decades longer. It’s an unfair comparison. Also, AI for medical use is only a small percentage of what it is being used for when we look at how the general public uses AI.

the reason people are focusing on AI above the others you mentioned is because AI is at the cause of a lot of other problems that are only going to get worse if we do not put a stop to it now. the other issues are important, yes, but your entire argument falls under the red herring fallacy. AI is the priority atm - most people are capable of understanding congruent problems happen simultaneously, while also being able to focus on one problem at a time

personally idc about the water issues with golf courses and agriculture because flock cameras have made their way into my neighborhood and more data centers are being built all around my city, so THAT is my priority. i am still concerned about golf (i’ve been bitching about it for years) and agriculture (envs student who studies this in class) but i am much more immediately concerned about the flock camera that is pointed towards a children’s park, or the one pointing down my street

It’s objectively not. It has been shown to make anxiety, depression, and psychosis worse. And had been caught telling people struggling with suicidal idealization to commit. Not to mention all that data and those chats can be used against you, esp legally, or potentially for jobs. Do NOT use ai.

But yes, there are "Some helpful" things that greatly benefit from the use of AI. Stuff like genome editing, and other medical research that is made mcuh more efficient when utilized alongside LICENSESD doctors, not some random person with little exp.
