Hot take: only high school, college, and post grad should have graduation ceremonies with cap and gown. Seeing elementary and middle schools hold graduation ceremonies with full grad regalia just doesn’t feel right to me. It should be something special

Yeah stuff that literally everyone goes through isn’t special and we shouldn’t celebrate it. That’s why I propose we should end birthdays too. 😉

I had no clue that elementary and middle school graduations use regalia. They don’t do it were I went to atleast

My school was k-12 in the same building, so they had the seniors pair up with kids graduating either kindergarten or pre-k (it’s been a hot minute so I don’t remember exactly), in full cap and gown regalia, and parade around the school past all the classrooms. They filmed it and put it on Facebook with the kids being the focus of it, not the seniors graduating

I understand a ceremony but not a cap and gown for graduating from middle school 😭😭

High school shouldn’t have it either. Graduating high school is nothing special

Same here. I was genuinely surprised to learn schools do that. Seems to me it’d make graduating from high school/college/grad school less special wouldn’t it?

I don’t know how to explain this very well, but it’s not that it affects me personally, but rather that I think children should not perceive graduations as common or “ordinary”. In reality graduation should be celebrated as this incredible accomplishment! If it’s common it’s not special. When I graduated high school the movement was so special BECAUSE I had never dressed in regalia before. I get sad thinking that one day my future kids won’t think a graduation is something special.

Yeah, obviously not every school does it, but I posted this as a result of me finding out my middle school has now started doing a graduation ceremony with cap and gown

I mean, since Covid schools have decided that the ceremony is a “privilege” and take it away at the slightest “misconduct”, there was a kid who’s brakes went out driving to graduation rehearsal and he pulled over, ya know, to be safe, and the school said he couldn’t walk with his class but they would “hold a private ceremony after the full ceremony for him and his family”. Best part his little sibling were in the truck with him so he was being safe for himself and them. Schools are fucked up now

I just don’t think it matters that much, making it through middle school was absolute hell for me and ik I would’ve appreciated a celebration

How is it out of touch? Honestly if we’re not celebrating 8th grade graduations and middle school we shouldn’t be celebrating high school. Nothing special about graduating high school especially when most of it is government mandated. College and beyond is when it becomes an achievement
