Plus, op admitted to having her partner not wear a condom. That’s foolish practice even if she is on bc knowing she doesn’t want a kid. That’s both their fault on the matter if they didn’t want kids. Before you emotionally disagree, logically tell me what’s wrong about what I said
you’re right there was a risk. there was a 0.001% chance of me getting pregnant with the 2 forms of birth control i was on. ill handle the situation how i see fit because it’s my body my choice. not taking accountability would be ignoring the fact im pregnant hoping someone else will fix the situation for me
yeah you are. a fetus is not a being. it is not self sustaining. and using birth control gives a 99.9% chance of no conception, so yeah, that's not an assumed risk any more that dying in a car crash every time you get in a car is an assumed risk. with all reasonable precautions (seatbelt, birth control, whatever) you do it anyways because it's a part of life.
so actually it’s not a kid right now it has no heartbeat no thoughts it’s basically a clump of cells at this point. and you know i’m so glad medicine has advanced to the point where if i don’t want a kid i don’t have to have it. would you call vaccines and life saving surgery playing god? its not playing god it’s medicine
Whether you go through with it or not is your choice, but you should know how awful abortion is, the act, as in the process of it. Plenty of women come to regret it, you should read up on it to know what you are possibly doing. I’m sure you’ll be in the same boat. Life is beautiful, not a burden
1. equating abortion to eugenics is insane. i’m not getting an abortion because the fetus has a disability. 2. i’ve done my research in a pre med major and have already talked about this with my doctor. i’m aware of the risks and possiblity of regret. i don’t want kids at this point in my life it would literally ruin my life.
That is eugenics and you don’t realize it. To better yourself you chose killing the kid. The kid being an inconvenience to you is enough reason for you to abort it. It doesn’t matter if the kid ruins your life, you shouldn’t kill it because it will affect your career, life has more meaning than money. Imagine you are on your deathbed and happy you prioritized money over having a kid
abhorrently evil? according to what? they can't speak for themselves because they are not yet people, they are cells dependent on supply from the mothers body. they have never taken a breath, never experienced sensory input from the outside world, never experienced any emotion, never developed a single memory. they do not yet exist
op is already doing a million things bigger than herself with her work. there is no kid to give a chance as life, it is simply cells. it does not feel, it does not think, it does not experience, it does not believe. it is not yet a child and does not yet have life. op on the other hand has built something great and meaningful and valuable, and derailing that is what would truly be inhumane.
I have! None of them are substantiated by actual proof. No explanation doesn’t mean God. If that’s the logic you want to use then congrats, you must think that all of the early civilizations that used to not know how thunder worked, must’ve been right when they said God caused thunder when he was mad.
even with all this "proof" of christianity's stories being "true", which i am already skeptical of but have yet to research on my own as i'm not a christian and haven't had interest in it, these sightings and claims still fail to explain why you think the spiritual aspect of it should go unquestioned, and what makes it truer than other spiritual traditions. morals are inherently subjective, and have varied from culture to culture throughout all of history. even points of agreement among--
--different cultures often had different reasoning that led them to those conclusions of right and wrong. saying that my moral code is wrong, simply because it is not yours and does not follow the same reasoning yours does, is proving nothing. just because your morals come from the popular tradition of christianity, does not make them superior or grant them some ultimate truth.
That burden of proof isn’t on me to prove it was mistranslated. The oldest most complete Bible is known as the Codex Sinaiticus. The current Bible is translated from that. And as far as the question of them lying is rather simple, those men would not die for something they thought to be a lie rather they would die if they thought for it to be the truth. Out of the disciples, most of them, except John, would die, brutal deaths, preaching the word of Christ
the burden of proof is on you! you're trying to prove something to me. not to mention that in philosophy in general, the burden of proof is on theists, not atheists, as you are making a claim that god exists and is the "ultimate moral truth". you have failed to provide persuasive evidence, instead dodging by claiming that i must provide the evidence here.
you’re the one arguing that the bible is real. if you’re going to debate a topic you should have the proof to back it up already on hand. if you don’t it means you don’t actually know what you’re talking about. in this sense if you can’t refute the claims being made about YOUR RELIGION that you’re using to justify your argument it’s proof you don’t know what you’re talking about and you’re just using religion as a way to justify hatred towards others
Truly there are so many moving parts that are right in front of our faces yet it’s up to us individually to decide if we believe or not. I know i believe so of course I say this with bias. But i can’t believe with all the evidence is given you it doesn’t seem to make you question the possibility of Jesus being God. Real talk. If that’s the case, why?
i'm not talking about the existence of jesus or about his preaching. i'm talking about your claim the the bible is the objective pinnacle of morality. are you aware that parts of the bible were used to justify slavery? and the needless violence of the crusades? and the mistreatment of native people from every land that was colonized?
Like if none of what I said doesn’t make you think for a second I don’t know. I’m not sure how you can be atheist and say it’s a mere coincidence that a solar eclipse and happened during the crucifixion of Jesus, which was also foretold 700 years in advance and not even blink at that information
because none of the things you have said are proof they’re coincidental at best. and yes you are biased it’s your religion so of course it will take less for you to believe. My grandfather used to be in college to be a priest and part of the reason he is agnostic is because faith is not based within logic
ACTUALLY, as someone who studied the bible and its historical contexts, it was mistranslated. the reason it’s not widely known is because the king james version (kjv) was because it was used as the standard in the church of england. england, as in the center of the british empire, notorious for its widespread colonization. the kjv bible was translated by scholars called the king james translators, but translations weren’t always precise. not only were they lacking in language, they also didn’t-
know this historical contexts in which the bible was written, leading to misinterpretations of the codex. they were also biased and tried to make translations support the teachings of the church of england since they were translating for king james, who was a member of that church. by defying the church, you are also defying the king. there’s also missing texts in kjv that are in the textus receptus, or the original greek text of the new testament. also, since the kjv was published over-
yes once it has heartbeat and brain waves it would be immoral not when it’s a clump of cells. it’s surviving off my body and it’s not anything yet. sperm has the potential to become human does that make masturbation murder. sperm is really just early term children if you really think about it
well, if you ACTUALLY cared, then you would know that the codex itself was translated by scholars and show how incorrect the bible is. for example, hell was translated from the greek word gehenna, which referred to the valley of hinnom outside jerusalem where people disposed of trash and the burnt remains of criminals. another exaple, heaven was translated from the greek word ouranos, which is the same word they used to describe the sky and the celestial sphere
was indeed derived from the Valley of Hinnom outside Jerusalem. However, by Jesus’ time it had become a metaphor for divine judgment, not merely a garbage dump. Also, The Greek word ouranos can mean the sky, outerspace/heavens, the dwelling place of God. And your claim about the Codex Sinaiticus is flat out wrong. It’s simply formatted different
i will concede that you are TECHNICALLY right about the garbage thing. had to look back on my notes for that. HOWEVER, hell is still not the place you think it is. the valley was a location where people would go to sacrifice their children to false gods like ba’al and molech. that is where the image of burning fires in hell comes from. the most unholy place imagineable was a place where people burned children for a false god. THAT is hell
and i’m looking through my notes about heaven, but unfortunately they’re lacking since that sections was around the time i slowed my research for school. it was a debated topic. the old school jews, the sadducees, didn’t believe in resurrection or an afterlife while the pharisees believed in it. take of that what you will
You are presenting YOUR interpretation as FACT when you aren’t established on the matter. So for me to take that as fact is foolish. The question isn’t what Gehenna originally was, it’s what Jesus meant when He used it. If Jesus only meant a valley outside Jerusalem, why does He talk about God destroying both body and soul in Gehenna (Matthew 10:28)? That sounds like more than a geographic location
you’re presenting YOUR interpretation as fact. your interpretation isn’t wrong, but you saying that this is the interpretation of the line aligns with the context of the codex. that’s wrong. as aforementioned, the codex is talking about the valley of hinnom, where people were sacrificed for false gods. in THIS context, the line would mean that the body is destroyed by the sacrificial fires and the soul is destroyed bc it was offered to a false god instead of letting it go to God. that-
soul is now lost. again, your interpretation isn’t inherently incorrect. you’re just making your interpretation based off what you have been told is true all your life. and it still isn’t technically incorrect since the kjv bible is still a bible that is widely used today. it wouldn’t be right to disregard it since it is the basis of many christians’ beliefs
abortion was never mentioned in the bible. it was widely known and practiced back then, actually! the methods are different, but it was still abortion. the closest thing we have to abortion is exodus 21:22-25, which states that if a person were to injure a pregnant woman to the point of miscarriage but is otherwise unharmed, the person responsible is to be fined. but, if the woman IS harmed, then the perpetrator is to be harmed what would be deemed as equal. an eye for an eye situation
Oh my gosh. The narcissism to think I should cater to a stranger online over an argument that they clearly aren’t going to be receptive to is upset I haven’t responded to them. Even better, when I have matters to tend to. Here is some advice - get off yik yak and do something productive
i hate to break it to you buddy but you’re making christians look like shit people. be like the christian wives of pagan men paul talked to and try to win people over with gentleness, submission, and quiet righteousness, not with bludgeoning people over the head with your beliefs and condemning people.
