Our brains aren't even developed until we are 26 years old. why are kids buying guns? especially as a teenager like tf? go buy a nerf gun
How old were you when you bought your first firearm?

The only reason I got a gun at 21 was because I had a man attack me and I didn’t have a way to defend myself at the time. I never wanted to feel that way again. Next time a guy tried it all I had to do was lift my shirt a little and show him my pistol and he backed off.

They’re getting guns to go hunting. Unless they’re suicidal (tbc not taking this lightly or joking, just the truth) then most people buying a gun that young have already been taught how to use it

Not entirely true statistic about the brain, btw, and I beg of you to go to an area with a heavy hunting population where most boys get guns for their 13th birthday

Trust me, as someone who grew up in NE tennessee i *fully* understand what you believe and i implore you to think a bit deeper beyond "since most little boys believe this i will too!!"

That’s not what I believe. I believe the issue isn’t access to guns, it’s a lack of education and respect for them. If it was just age+gun we’d have a lot more teen related gun deaths, but adults are the overwhelming majority And again, brains never stop developing. The 25 stat was from a study that capped at 25. Our brains are constantly evolving our entire lives (until old age and mental decline), and frontal lobe development can happen at any point in young adulthood UP TO 25/26 or beyond

clearly it's not just hunting & suicide. america is known nationally for having hella mass and school shootings. every single person i have asked either was in a school shooting or had a legitimate shut down on suspicion of a shooting. it's a huge issue. we need less guns

i looked into it a bit and yes 25 isn't the magic number of suddenly being more mature but it is a good landmark for developmental progress. i would not say that a 13 year old is as mature as an 18 year old, or that an 18 year old is as mature as a 25 year old. And a lot of studies seem to say that maturity actually caps at around 32, to further emphasize my point that adolescents should not be buying guns. more education would help, but not as much as having less guns in general.

Not trying to be an ass, but why is it age specifically that you’re treating as a bar? Why not something like required yearly training to keep it? The only people I trust with a gun are the ones who respect its power and won’t whip it out like a damn toy
