As much as I agree that we shouldn’t use God to be hateful and mistreat others, what “vain” means is to use the name of God in a way that has no meaning. Saying “oh my God” without actually talking about God Himself takes away the weight of which the name holds. I mean, I’m guilty of saying it too so I’m not bashing you I promise 🫶
It’s even more wild that there’s so many people who have no proof of something and yet they still believe that it exists lol. I was raised Irish Catholic but no longer believe in anything religiously related besides the proven or universally accepted things. So it’s insane to me to see full grown adults believing in gods still. I no longer treat them as if I should respect their beliefs cause religion hurts more than helps
Its less about using God's name for our own gain and more about not giving God the honor and respect He deserves. Saying "Oh my God" flippantly shows a lack of respect for God and His name(reputation). Now doing terrible things in God's name is way more disrespectful to Him, His name, and His reputation, but both are still bad.
Those that have faith need no evidence, those that don’t have faith no amount of evidence will be enough. There’s plenty of evidence that God existed. Use any search engine you’d like and it’ll say Jesus was a real person and there is proof of him. Harvard physicists have said that the universe is too perfectly fine tuned for there not to be a God that created it. Astronomers have confirmed events like a solar eclipse on the day of Jesus’ crucifixion as described in the bible, list goes on
I don’t know, man. I fully agree with this post - and I’m a Christian! I don’t think OP said they aren’t one, either.🤙 Honestly, “Don’t use my name to control, oppress, or harm other human beings” sounds perfectly darn reasonable to me. I’d actually be pretty concerned by any Christian (or non-Christian) who *doesn’t* agree with that.
Hi there, I’m a full grown person that still believes. XD I think 5 has super cool and compelling points! But sadly it doesn’t evade the fact that fellow Christians have weaponized their faith to oppress folks on a mass scale. It’s perfectly reasonable to not want to have to force to follow laws of a religion you don’t believe in - I hope no one gives you a hard time for that. We know it doesn’t mean you hate us. <3 I’m sorry to be a bit of both an bummer and a bother!
I mean that’s still not necessarily evidence though. No one is saying Jesus the person didn’t exist, the question is was he really all that people said he was or was it just a group of guys creating these tall tales about this man to justify their beliefs and lifestyle. And the stuff about Harvard physicists seems to stem from personal faith as well, not something that it 100% proven. The solar eclipse can also be justified by the same thing that you mentioned to start, it probably actually
You’re acting like it’s hard to keep stories consistent with a written book of stories to fall back on 💀💀💀 and even still, only a few books in the Bible are consistent. People’s interpretation of the Bible is extremely inconsistent. How many Christian’s think being gay is or isn’t a sin? How many people pick and choose which verses to recite and believe in when persecuting others?
Typical Christian crying hatred and bashing when your religion get criticized on a logical level 💀💀💀💀 if you can’t defend it that’s fine, but why are you taking it personally? If you have so much faith stand in it even if you’re blind in your faith. Isn’t that the entire point? Are y’all even really Christians?
We’re not to convict anyone for their sins, it’s not our job to. People will be hypocrites no matter the religion. Picking and choosing to fit your own agenda in the Bible is wrong, point blank period, in fact it says you shouldn’t weaponize the word of God in the Bible. Everyone has different interpretations of the Bible, and it’s bc of our free will. I’m sorry you have experienced religious trauma in the past but please don’t bash and generalize those who do choose to be religious.
Yeah, OP didn’t say anything wrong I just like to ask people for clarification sometimes, and some Christian’s aren’t well versed in Christianity or have as much faith as they claim so they take it as personal attacks. If you can’t defend it hust say that or don’t respond at all. If you ask me about the logistics of my spirituality I will just say “there’s literally no proof in it, I just believe it because I find comfort in it”. That’s literally all that has to be said
