The Odyssey was a piss poor adaptation. It’s like Nolan learned about the story through a game of telephone and just ran with it.

the dialogue in obsession was seamless and was 10/10. i LOVVEDD the lighting and practical effects. it stuck with me more tbh the odyssey had some clunky dialogue, but great vfx that retold a classic story. stunning. didnt stick with me as much as obsession tho

By omitting details that give important context to characters? He completely removed the Nobody scene, which demonstrates Odysseus’ cleverness and tactical thinking, this isn't really shown anywhere else in the movie? It’s also pivotal because it removes the main reason Poseidon keeps him from going back to Ithaca, his hubris. You cannot make an adaptation of a centuries-old text, and leave out pivotal moments that add context or characterization. It does not work like that. It’s like a fanfic…

Well I think he was trying to make Odysseus a more sympathetic character. He wanted to emphasize that the Greeks were not the good guys in the war, hence why he made Odysseus so guilt-ridden over the sacking of Troy. It’s probably a similar case here.
