Do you think it’s better long term to call it a stigmatizing disease or think of it warmly as a common messy phase

It should not be common nor a phase. Calling it such downplays and minimizes the dangerous and repercussions.

Thing is, it’s not a ‘common messy phase’, it’s an actual issue. Huge swathes of society think it’s okay to pressure others to drink during outing “Just one! Pleaaaase, come on! It’ll be fun!” and many more see an alcoholic struggling and think they’re suddenly the scum of the earth when they don’t have access to treatment or a support network around them because the disease takes everything away from them.
