I’ll wear them when I’m actually out, but if I’m just staying in the harbor or sitting in the boat docked or just lacking in the shallows I normally don’t

By in the harbor I should say I mean quite close to shore. As in, standing on the bottom head above water

It’s more like asking you to always wear a seatbelt in the car !

i can see where youre coming from but a car is wayyy more dangerous than *most* bodies of water

40,000 Car deaths occur a year in the US, 4,000 drownings also occur in the U.S…. Now ask yourself, do you drive 10x more than you do something water related? I kayak, paddleboard, swim laps, and go fishing all the time… and I STILL think I drive 10x more than I do those things…. Drowning occurs at a similar rate proportionally to time spent at risk.

i think proper preparation (in your view, i guess it would be proper preparation minus a life jacket) can prepare you for so much more compared to what you can do in a car. you can die in your average commute just because someone else was reckless. you cant die in your average kayaking trip unless you are woefully underprepared

You absolutely 100% can die in your average kayaking trip though!

i can also die from an average walk that doesnt mean i nees to prepare for those scenarios.

They’re bright colors so they can be seen easily by rescuers

Yes like gray and black like the rest of the world so you can’t see someone floating!
