I mean it has to be a marketing tactic, same with the queerbaiting: have an audience highly invested in a possibility, get people talking, and then leave things ambiguous up until the very last second. They’ve done it before and they’ll do it again
Then afterward people are made fun of for ‘reading too far into things’ or ‘being delusional’, and the creators profit off both the people whom they misled and those who saw through it, because everyone starts yelling at each other
