the only reason i’ve ever heard is because they didn’t want to lose that audience. and there’s a word for hinting at/keeping hope for a queer relationship alive EVEN THOUGH you know it’s not going to happen just for the purpose of keeping your queer audience. it’s called QUEERBAITING
