I do hope the show gets to address/resolve how heavily Johnathan Byers is parentified. Like Joyce is amazing, but the difference in how she treats her sons…When she banded Will from going with Steve because of danger, but immediately volunteered Johnathan

I mean she’s clearly traumatized from losing Will in season 1 but I do have a theory that her hyperfixation to protect Will will result in Jonothan getting killed.

Joyce had already made Johnathan the “man of the house”/pseudo-adult before Will even went missing. However, Will getting kidnapped and the events after helped justify + enforce the difference in treatment of her two sons further. I predict that either he will sacrifice himself and either end up dying/almost dying for her to finally come to terms with the difference in treatment.

Oh for sure. It began with Joyce losing Will and it’ll end with her losing Jonathan. Full circle
