Bc their deaths would have too much of an effect on the rest of the characters. They each have had a key role this season and aside from that they have no time to waste grieving but not allowing them to grieve would be unrealistic so they have to save these deaths for the very ends. That’s why they could kill off barb, bob, billy, and Eddie. Bc their deaths really only affected one person. Dustin knew Eddie for a few months and we saw how much he was affected by his death.

Now imagine one of the main characters. How do u expect them to just pick everything up and move on, there’s not enough time for that. That’s why they tend to keep major deaths close to the epilogue

i think they didn’t kill jonathan so he could be there for wills coming out
