The analysis droids weren’t able to find out where the dart came from. Dexter was able to identify it because he worked in that area. It was the right weapon to use bc it was discrete and difficult for the Jedi to identify, and it was only ruined by the unlikely friendship between Obi-Wan and Dexter

But wouldn’t any generic dart have been better? That way it wouldn’t be “mysteriously untraceable”; a common dart = no special investigation that can be tracked to the one place the Jedi aren’t supposed to find out about yet
