At some point the ship crashes into a planet from combat or just dying to out run who he stole from either the spice or the starship but this an unimaginable amount of spice in an unfound atmospheric planet with life it’s not choking people out more akin to what leaded gas did to us idk I wish I was good at writing bc this just seems like it could be cool maybe even take inspiration from cargo cults to a point

There’s a legends character Booster Terrik who got his own Star Destoyer and painted it red. Operated as a mobile casino etc. I forget the back story but it’s pretty close to what you’re suggesting
