Will ai ever be art? If image generators don’t create art but humans using ai powered cropping tools (for example) do, create their own digital art, where is the line?

Absolutely not, this shit is disgusting and it's ruining our planet. Just learn how to use photoshop or stop altogether.

I’d say the human needs to consciously decide how to use each individual tool to create the desired result. Making a specific image from your mind is different then having an ‘idea’ and prompting a slop bot to churn out some bs. Generative ai is not all ai. I’m a photographer and I’ve found the AI powered Denoise setting to be a life saving feature. Completely different than generative ai.

there’s a difference between a tool that auto selects a subject or removes a background and ai generative art making your entire image. regardless of your opinions on AI art there’s one truth that can’t be ignored: it’s legitimately unprofitable. most companies are even able to keep up with demand for this are on subsidies.

This is a troll that’s been spamming ai cows in groups he thinks he’ll get a reaction out of. Just report for spam and don’t give him attention

you know people lately are so hostile about ai and “omg it uses water” but so does this app, and instagram and tiktok and every single other app you have on ur phone. water has been a problem since before ai. on another note, when photoshop first came out it had the same kind of controversy and people would say it’s not real art, now photoshop is standard. i think as long as an artist isnt using ai to entirely generate an image then its okay, it can absolutely be used as a tool.

I mean I agree but where do you draw the line when photoshop and digital drawing apps are incorporating ai powered tools?

Do you know what Ai is? Have you ever drawn digitally before? They’re not even close to the same thing.

Dude you don’t need to come at me, I’m not advocating for ai to be widely used, I’m asking what you think about the dynamic that currently exists and will only become more convoluted. Ai powered tools (not image generators that run off prompts) are already being included in photoshop and drawing software. You can look it up, they enable better snipping, patching, color matching, video editing…etc. They benefit from and use the same tech from image generators but they are only tools that are part

Of a program that is operated by a human artist. How do you feel about these gray areas?

I know they’re different lol, that’s what I was trying to explain to 1. But thanks for the answer! I’d agree as far as it goes, I don’t think a reduction in labor necessarily means a reduction in the meaning of the art, as long as you are the one creating it and driving the idea

Yeah I regret using it because I had this question before and their post just made me think of it, not really the best example tho

also there has been countless stories where the introduction to generative AI is either 1) used to completely replace jobs and give a higher workload on a smaller team or 2) just completely remove the team in general. it’s actively destroying the creative field as we speak and is not something that is friendly to a creative or their workflow. and this isn’t even touching on how companies are trying to implement it under users noses.

I feel like I’m going crazy here! Read the post and replies! I know there’s a difference between an ai image generator and ai powered tools!

The question gets interesting because we can all say that the thing I reposted (text prompt to image generator) isn’t art. But we also all agree that using ai powered cropping tools doesn’t make something not art if a human made it. What if the tool gets better and you just need to type “remove (this and that) from the picture)”? What if that turns into “remove this and add that” and “change how this looks in this way”, just narrating your artist intention and having a machine do it. Still art?

I’ve also said this before but I’ll say it to you too; I know that ai is horrible. I know it takes jobs, steals intellectual property, is bad for the environment, is bad for the livelihood of artists and the field in general…etc. I am distraught that it is becoming so widespread but unfortunately it’s something we’re going to have to think about as more and more people use it and get used to creating art with its assistance.

I’ve always made art with pen and paper, or other physical mediums. All respect to digital artists but that’s just not my thing. I’m not a a supporter of the increasing use of ai although my post might’ve been poorly worded
