hey guys i just made (potentially) my first sale through a gallery. i don’t really make art w the intention to sell, so all my paintings are close to my heart. does anyone have any tips for getting over the fear of it being trashed/donated/ruined?

Make sure you have a good photo of it so you can look back at it and remember it better Then tell yourself that you had your time with this one, and now it’s time to make something new. You don’t have the space to keep it, and this new person (the type of person to drop big bucks on art at a gallery) is likely also the type of person to be careful with your art.

For me, idc what they do with it because I’m detached to my art to begin with. If it gets trashed or ruined, it was never meant to be their art anyway

Also it’s a bit late for this but for the future, make sure the cost of the art includes what I call the “emotional distress fee.” That’s how ever much money it takes to compensate for the loss of your treasured artwork. If based on time and materials you’re art is priced at $200, but you would need $500 to feel the loss is worth it, then the emotional distress fee is $300
