This was a thought-provoking post. Gives me something to think about “balance of power” for lack of a better phrase. To throw out another similar perspective, the words dom, sub, and switch give some more positive connotations for understanding sex dynamics. Or they feel like better gender-neutral terms and I like that.

So we have the bondage community to thank for more terms to explain sex dynamics. Not to my personal tastes but more terminology is helpful, so credit where it’s due.

top/bottom/switch are already gender neutral terms, they describe how the two partners physically position themselves compared to each other. dom/sub/verse are bdsm terms describing the relationship dynamics. they’re close but not the same, and in some contexts their difference is important

Oh I see. Lot more minutia to these sorts of things.

“giver” and “receiver” are both non-gendered and non-BDSM terms, and also separate from top/bottom if you’d like words that don’t have an implied position or dynamic!

I frankly like all the terms being thrown my way by the comments.
