“the bible was written by god but also keep in mind that it was written a long time ago so don’t take it literally except for parts that allow christians to act like they’re superior to everyone else”

Mary magdalen wasn’t even a prostitute, she was with Jesus before the disciples but that would’ve given women a place in the church so they just merged her with a random prostitute in the Bible. Then in the 60’s the church corrected the wrong, they just corrected it so quietly that people still don’t know the truth.

Yeah having the first person to discover Jesus as alive being a woman is misogynistic af

you’re not supposed to take it completely literally, if you’re a Christian who thinks it’s literal then you’re a fundamentalist 😭 and everyone makes fun of them, for good reason lol

lots of Christians straight up don’t know anything about their own religion & it’s so embarrassing for them. half the time, the only “religious practice” they stick with is being homophobic 💀

sidenote, but, if you’re reading the Bible, I recommend finding a theologian or two you like who talks abt the passages you’re reading. context is king with the Bible, and many people (both Christian & non-Christian) take verses from the Bible out of that necessary context. you’ll also find a lot of new and interesting perspectives. I read stuff by a trans theologian who connected with many of the verses through his transition experience

B I N G O!! They throw these random bread crumbs at women to deflect on the blatant fact that Christianity is misogynistic. When literally the entire role of the woman in the bible is to be 2nd and submissive to men. There are many authors of the bible each one of them subscribing to their own levels of misogyny.

Definitely very invalid my guy. Having a situation based on circumstance and not intention as your so called “example” is honestly laughable. Now I will give you some points here I do agree that the NT is a lot less misogynistic than the Old Testament that is fair to say however these little cherry picking points you are using as your evidence fail to address the main issue of the bible painting the narrative that women of inferior to men.

I don’t think it’s laughable that Jesus, the son of God, chose to reveal himself first to a woman before any man. Especially due to the fact that the testimony of a woman was significantly less valuable compared to a man during that age. It was very much intentional as well, there could’ve been a number of people he could’ve revealed himself to.

It’s also not cherry picked, that moment can be argued as one of the most important in all of the Bible, it shows that Jesus truly is the son of God and that testimony proving this was purposeful put in the hands of Mary Magdalene.

Again I’m not saying you’re wrong I’m just saying that the inferiority that women were placed into is undeniable in the bible. Jesus already established himself as the son of God before his resurrection and made sure to choose 12 men to spread the word of that as well. His resurrection is important yes but the whole purpose of Jesus was to atone for the sins of the human kind that was caused by the fall of man.

Whether who chose a man or a woman to testify about his resurrection is inherently insignificant. His purpose had already been fulfilled. And the testimony of Mary Magdalene was dismissed regardless.

In the end the gender might not matter sure, but the intentionality of it is what’s important. Also Jesus can be seen many a time using women to spread his gospel, like the woman at the well for example, whom was the person he first officially revealed himself to that wasn’t a disciple of his.
