I hate people who chronically complain about food smells. unless it’s like egregious or expired or ALL the time or something- just because you don’t season your food doesn’t mean I’m going to stop cooking with garlic, spices, etc. you’ll be okay!!

If the smell invades other rooms it honestly really sucks. Gives me headaches, personally. Maybe an air purifier or some type of fan would help?

I love the smell of Indian food and the only reason anyone should have to ask about curry is if they’re offering it. That’s like my favorite smell. The people who are offended by this comment need to expand their palate bc this is lowkey embarrassing. No, you should not have to ask about what you are cooking unless you’re with someone who gets headaches/migraines etc.

I season my food and still hate the smell of onions. But I just won’t be in the kitchen while someone cooks with them if possible. I use onion powder and salt sometimes I just can’t stand the smell of cooked onions.

Hot take but food smells and even some “bad” smells don’t bother me as much as strongly scented cleaners and perfumes, one day one of my roommates mopped with some sort of febreze lavender floor cleaner and I couldn’t be in the front room or kitchen more than a few minutes at a time without getting a headache for like two days 😭 I’d take strong food smell over that any time

Tbh I always just cook with a window open and let it air out 🤷‍♂️ it usually resolves the problem since most student apts don’t have good ventilation

There are some cases in which you may be right, and some in which you may be wrong. Do you know if your roommate is neurodivergent? And we don’t know what cuisine you’re cooking. Because some of them truly are egregious to be cooking in a shared space without consent from everyone who shares the space. This is important context you have conveniently left out

I am neurodivergent! living in a shared space means everyone is going to be inconvenienced at some point, you can never all be 100% happy all the time. As long as I’m not burning scrambled eggs every morning I think it’s a bit of a stretch to check with anyone every time I’m cooking. There are cases where you’re right, like if someone has extreme smell sensitivity, but for the most part that’s not what I’m talking about

a) not white, you racist piece of shit. Just raised to take notice of other people’s needs and not be a selfish pig b) I was using OP’s word, not my own, and I was using it in regards to the action, not the food itself. I love all different kinds of food, haven’t found a cuisine I don’t love. But some of them you just don’t cook in a shared space without unanimous consent. Some examples being most fish, curry, kimchi, Limburger cheese, and andouillette

a.) you are weirdddd 😭 b.) what other people do in a shared space is not going to be perfectly catered to you all the time!!! sometimes someone is going to make salmon in the kitchen and it’s going to be annoying for an hour and then not be a problem! we’re adults and you’ll be fine!!
