Unfortunately. I have trust issues and know several other people with bad experiences where they moved out first and got charged. So I stay and leave last to actually make sure it gets done. I’d rather not get charged like $75+ and just be stuck driving home later 😔

That’s when you look up the filing fee for small claims court and figure out if it’s worth setting a court date

If you go that route, I’d make it very clear and in writing to your roommate that anything they leave behind is getting trashed no matter what it is. I’ve heard enough stories of people trying to use their old apartment as a storage unit after they move out that you need to state that clearly.
