I think that sometimes the issue is the humidity. I keep my windows open with a fan blowing most of the day, and it’s still a bit musty smelling sometimes. Laundry is done regularly, but the wet air holds onto smells really well. I recommend Febreeze and dehumidifier packs to help reduce the smell. It works well when paired with open windows
