He is like an older man and we have never spoken I have no idea how to approach asking him to stop or play at a different time I but I am so angry I cannot sleep or live like this

Alright. You should start by knocking on his door when you know he’s home and asking nicely. If he stops, great! Otherwise, google your city’s noise ordinances. Most cities have laws saying you can’t be insanely loud past a certain time. In my city, that time is 8:30PM. I’m a drummer who lives in an apartment building. I bought quiet heads and cymbals, sound dampening, and I promised all of my neighbors they’d never hear me past 7pm. I don’t usually play past 6. Your neighbor knows better.
