my cheap ass roommate who used to be my friend before i lived here had rules like no setting the thermostat above 55-60 in the winter. so when i used my space heater, she said i broke her trust and needed to ask her permission before turning it on 💀

and when i would ask it was "are you sure it's cold? bc i feel like it's fine (it was 49 degrees in my room)" "you should get a heated blanket"

That is super manipulative to say she has to give permission for you to use a space heater. What’s that, a $2 difference in the bill? And that’s on top of the fact that she’s keeping the thermostat at ridiculously cold temperatures with no ability to compromise.

Tell her to go to the doctor she probably goin through early menopause with her hot ass, and find you a new place while you at. It'll only get worse twin 🙂‍↔️

Never above 60 in the winter?? That’s insane! My window doesn’t seal all the way in our apartment that’s in SD. With our heat between 69-71 my room is commonly low 60’s. I think I’d actually die!

Yea like I would get it if you both agreed to that before/when you moved in but like if you didn’t agree to that then she has no right to force that. Also you need to keep the heat at a certain temp during the winter so the pipes don’t freeze so maybe see if there’s a specific temp in your lease, because definitely needs to be higher than 60

Just explain to her utility is only $150 max so you’re only costing like $20 over if anything learn to communicate

No fr I’d pay the difference if it’s really a money issue but this is just controlling and she just doesn’t need to have roommates

Yes. Space heaters are more costly than oil 😭

First off she considered anything over $15 per person (there's 3 of us) too high second using the heater increased it by $5. third, communication doesn't work with controlling/manipulative people. everytime i tried to communicate and compromise, she shut me down if it wasn't complete agreement. anyone who says "communication is key" is 100% wrong

Yeah no this stopped being a communication issue when the roommate called using a space heater a “break of trust” and said OP needed her permission to use her own appliances. This is manipulation plain and simple.

Same, that's why it ended up being 49 in my room :/ in the summer my room would be 90 degrees and turning on fans wasn't enough to keep from not passing out

you have a right to a livable temperature in the apartment, not just limited to your room
