How do you guys deal with roommates that refuse to clean common areas? I live in a 4 person apartment and it’s VERY apparent that I’m the only one that cleans 💀💀

i’m in the same predicament and i’m rlly irritated. if i come back next semester im probably gonna have to set some ground rules for us including quiet time hours and no leaving dishes in the sink… it’s so stupid.. i hate having to do this and i just want to be able to live in a clean space.

The petty route: stop cleaning. Don’t use common spaces when they’re dirty or use it around their mess if you can. Get your own items to avoid using those spaces (I got an electric skillet to use in my room and an airfryer, used my own mini fridge from the dorms, had my own trashcan I took out myself, etc). Make them live in their filth alone until they fix it. The normal adult way is to just talk to them about it. Tell them the messes they leave are unacceptable and they need to respect spaces

i’m struggling with the same thing. i always clean everything partly because i get a little ocd about it but also bc my roommate NEVER does. and then she yells at me when i don’t do her dishes or take out the trash that we BOTH use. i took out the upstairs trash and she sends me a nasty text about not taking out the kitchen trash. like you have to cooperate too and take care of a shared space too, it should not fall just on me.

Well we have a chore chart. Doesn’t mean they fucking do their part though. Until I bring it up and then suddenly I’m “pointing fingers.” Yeah mfers I’m pointing right at YOU bc you’re nasty and don’t fucking cleanup after yourself

my roommate sent a text in our group chat saying hey i bought a vacuum and anyone can use it, can we alternate weekends cleaning the living room? and we keep track on a whiteboard on the fridge. could be as simple as that, just propose a way to keep track so everyone stays accountable
