I’m white my roommate is black and she keeps making comments making me feel like I’m dirty because I do “white people things.” Like I don’t wash my chicken, I only use a about a quarter cup of detergent for my laundry, I only (1/2)

also one full cup of detergent is normal. if you want her to use less then talk to her about it because she'd just be using it all up, or even switch to the tide pods so she can moderate herself because she's also wrong for that

put one capsule in the dishwasher, like ugh. You aren’t supposed to wash chicken, you only need so much detergent per load (also, she uses TWO FULL CUPS of our communal detergent), and also you are only supposed to put one capsule in the dishwasher!!! You are wasteful!!! But no I’m just white and dirty.

You can talk to her about this, just cultural differences. I’m black and my roomate is white, conversations are had sometimes

Nothing pisses me off more than when people have this high ground over being “cleaner” than you. Chicken quite literally can give you salmonella after being washed…. You need to cook it 😭 my old roommate did the same. There are gonna be cultural differences but both parties should be respectful

Actually, its more unsafe to wash your chicken. I am a Dietetic Science major with a manager food safety certification. When chicken is cooked to 165° all bacteria is killed. Washing your chicken not only spreads bacteria to your sink, faucet, and backsplash, but also there are still traces of salmonella after washing anyway.

I wouldn’t care that much about it if it was just one cup of detergent, because I know thats what most people do (even though, it is still wasteful). After this tub of detergent I’m just gonna get my own lol.

I have talked to her about it, she just wouldn’t listen to me. :( I don’t even think these things are all cultural differences, my mom washes her chicken and uses a lot of soap, I just say those things are unnecessary.

It’s actually scary how people don’t know this. Can’t fully blame them as it is what I have been told by everyone growing up too, but a quick google search will tell you not to wash your chicken 😭
