Why do I need to explain to a 22 year old that YOU NEED TO LOCK THE DOOR to the apartment and I have a right to freak out about it after it happening 3 days in a row. This is not the first 3 times this has happened. Thank goodness I move out soon.

I don’t understand why this is such a common thing with roommates. It’s clearly safer to leave the door locked. If even 1 roommate has an issue with it all roommates should start locking the door. You can’t expect everyone to be okay with leaving the front door unlocked

Yeah I grew up in a rural area and my family never locked the front door, eventually we didn’t even have a house key anymore 😭 I’ve never really locked doors before but I’ve had to learn to build the habit

I’ve been struggling with this too!!! I grew up in a decent area but there were still robberies that happened so I always grew up locking my door when leaving the house!! Our dorm is right by the main door(that you need a key to get into is their excuse) so if someone snuck past that door then they could break into our dorm!! It’s so frustrating😭😭

i find it's more of a people grew up like that and it's just muscle memory even if they want to comply to make their roommate feel better they will likely forget some days you can't break muscle memory instantly

Yeah that’s definitely different, there weren’t houses around me at all, but in a suburb is crazy work
