my roommate brought an animal into our apartment that everyone else is allergic to, our allergies are still acting up even though we aren’t interacting and trying to avoid it and her solution is: wash your sheets!

Call the landlord immediately bc that’s gotta be against the lease

our landlord is adding a pet fee onto our rent (she’s paying it ofc) but i’m not sure what more we can do

I think that’s illegal ngl she should bring the pet somewhere else like this can potentially harm you guys

She didn’t write any sort of clause into the rent that pets need to be approved by roommates/can be denied in cases of allergies?

tbh i don’t even think she told him about our allergies but either myself or one of my other roommates is going to call him tomorrow to let him know about it

The only way something like that could be illegal is if someone is deathly allergic and you purposefully expose them to the pet and withhold medical care. So the only solution here is the landlord deny the pet (assuming it can be in accordance with the lease), or everyone moves out.

Yeah that’s is what I was thinking but I def think they can get the pet out no shade but this person was inconsiderate and aware

she moved all of the cat stuff into her room but “feels bad locking her in her room when shes at class/work” so the cats still roaming around our house when we aren’t home and she is considering moving out

She shouldn’t lock a cat in a room all day. Hence why having a cat in an apartment with allergies isn’t feasible. She should consider moving out if she’s going to keep a cat (which in general I’m anti college age people with pets. They don’t have the time or the money to be a responsible pet owner in a majority of situations)

yeah idk she got into a huge argument with my roommate who’s allergies have been the worst so far and her bf told us she might just re-home her cat so ig we just have to wait and see what happens

Checks out. Impulsively gets a cat, faces backlash, fuck the cat and get rid of it at the first sign of hardship. I love college kids with pets 🫩

atp i feel bad for the cat☹️ she’s had it since february, however she has been moving the cat from friends/families homes since march and has not had it under her care since, idk why she thought getting one in the first place was a good idea if she couldn’t provide a stable home for it
