You being a teacher is wild! You just equated human beings trying to figure out who they are as people. To literal wild animals. Educating our children on trans people ensures that actual trans children who do feel like they’re in the wrong body are not bullied into suicide or worse. It is insane of you to think that preventing these tragedies shouldn’t be a priority. Not teaching children about different types of people and how they are okay to EXIST as people is part of the problem
Some children who are trans do feel like they are in the wrong body it is insane that you think that people choose to be trans rather than being born in the wrong body. Do you think sexuality is also a choice? Do you think being gay is a choice? Do you think gay children become gay because they are told to be gay? Go on I wanna see what kinda “teacher” you fucking are.
I think gay is probably more of a teachable subject, but still doesn’t need to be in schools. You can stop calling me an idiot though. Still haven’t heard what you do for work. I’ve met real trans people. I have trans friends. I just don’t teach that to my children. I still stand by that if kids didn’t know trans existed, we wouldn’t have trans kids.
Well… maybe what you need to focus on is teaching kindness and respect to ALL people always. And repercussions for bullying. Instead of just teaching kids that transgender exists. Teach kids that people exist. And that they will meet ALL KINDS of different people in life. The importance of respect.
By the time they reach high school they might already be gone… Roughly 26% of transgender students attempted suicide last year. This comes from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Youth Risk Behavior Survey. 40% of transgender students and non binary students reported bullying on school grounds.
I have a serious problem with you saying kids wouldn’t be trans if they didn’t know trans people existed. I’m not trans but I see how poorly they are treated by the rest of society ESPECIALLY conservatives and right wingers and it makes me sick. You’re bisexual. You know damn well there was a time we were in the exact same positions as them. Research and health experts find no evidence that learning about gender diversity converts cisgender children into transgender children.
I think the glorification of it is influential. Kids can say they are an octopus but it doesn’t make them an octopus. A white kid can say they’re black but it doesn’t make them black. Still this transgender stuff confuses me. I’m not the problem, I’m not bullying transgender people. I just don’t teach it to my kids. That’s literally it.
Don’t say they wouldn’t exist if they didn’t know about it. Kids know. Inclusive policies help lower rates of severe depression, harassment, and bullying among vulnerable youth. It’s as simple as teaching children to respect everyone and their pronouns they have. It’s as simple as saying “yes trans people exist and deserve to be treated with kindness like every other person on this earth” that’s the least European schools do. Just acknowledging it. And it does make a difference.
That said I don’t think children should be making the decisions to have surgeries at young ages. I think to make that decision you need to be at least 16. And I especially don’t think a parent should push their children one way or another. The child must come to their own conclusion on who they are.
I acknowledge it. I just don’t teach it. It’s really up to the parents. If a kid asked me, I would acknowledge they exist and encourage them to ask their parents about it. A kid doesn’t even know how to do multiplication yet, but still thinks they want to be a girl instead of a boy because “teacher said that’s okay!”
