Is it bad that I straight up want to ask my partner to put more of an effort in providing emotional support? Like I had a family pet death and I’ve gone thru this before but I’m not good at it and it seems like they don’t have many skills at providing it

Like providing emotional support in the ways I need. I don’t think they don’t care about me but it’s just an area where I feel like they lack the skills rather than being uninterested in me. Majority of areas of our relationship are feeling good I just want to feel like I can know I can actually get support sometimes.

Absolutely not! Communicate with them and tell them how you feel. You should feel emotionally supported no matter what in your relationship. Communicate with them and let them know that you need more emotional support from them and maybe even provide ways they can help if they don’t know what to do

With the two of you being not so good at providing emotional support. Maybe you guys should pinpoint exactly how to do so. For example, some people might want a listening ear to vent, or maybe no conversation at all and just physical contact as support. Maybe even going to try new foods, going outside. It depends. Comfort can be hard to navigate, we need the conversations in advance to establish certain needs/boundaries.
