Slightly related, but I (Latin American) was once lowkey told off by a white European woman in Europe because she asked to hear my music and my lyrics were in English, not my native language. Never mind that I had my reasons to sing in English, one of which simply was that, for that album, I felt like it.  It’s so condescending when people, especially white people, say stuff like that and try and box you in, whereas they still get to have all the world to explore.
