Hey, if you want the best for your orchid, I would cut the blooms from the spike and put them in a vase. They take a lot of energy from the plant, and removing them would allow the plant to focus on new growth. The medium that your orchid came in is likely highly moisture retentive, which is definitely not ideal for an epiphyte. Take the orchid out of the medium and remove it from the root ball. Soak the orchid in warm water and use this as an opportunity to trim any roots that are

They are so easy. Pot it in bark when the flowers die. If it’s in bark already, even better. Water them once they are dry and feel lighter or the media looks a little dry/roots look silver.

For your first orchid just keep it simple and don’t worry about mounting it or growing it in water either. Everyone says to do that but it makes it so much harder to take care of. You can feed them with orchid fertilizer and keep them in pretty bright areas but not so much direct sun.

rotted. Now, you can decide whether you want to pot your orchid or mount it. If you decide to pot it, use (tiny nugget) pine bark mixed with perlite or just orchid bark. Water weekly or when the medium is completely dry. Personally, I recommend mounting orchids. Phalaenopsis orchids are naturally epiphytes, meaning they can happily live on other plants like trees. For more on this, search orchid mount on YouTube. Best of luck!

lol just cut the stick that holds the flowers and put it in a vase medium is the soil or moss the orchid is potted in is the stem you’re saying is black the one that holds the flowers? if so, that would be the spike. it’s normal for this to be black or purpleish.
