So I’m planning on adopting a cat from my local pet shelter, and wanted to know if anyone else has done the same? I’m worried something’s gonna go wrong. (Parents cat for some luck)

This is my girl Enola. I absolutely LOVE her. Only thing I would make sure of is that you are never going to move over an ocean because different countries and states have laws about the pets allowed. Technically she is allowed but it’ll run me 3k+. My parents now take care of her until I move back stateside because of this. Of course you can’t predict where you’ll live forever but just some advice. Certain places are strict about the cats allowed in

Ah, okay! Does she still have her claws?

Yes, it is animal abuse to declaw cats. They rely on their claws for so much!

Ah, okay! The two cats that I’m looking at still have their claws and I would love to let them keep them, but I don’t know how to cat proof my couch and the corner walls! Any suggestions?

I had cat scratchers on the corners of my couch. They sell them on Amazon where they strap around the arms of your couch!

Amazing!! And would it be recommended to get a cat tower to give them some vertical height?

I would say yes but it just depends on the cat. My cat loves hammocks so I made sure to get her a cat tower with some scratching area but also a hammock and places to hide

Okay! Was it at a pet store or Amazon?

I got it for Christmas but it was from Costco last year I believe. I would look on Amazon though or a big store like that. I’ve also seen really cute ones at places like tjmaxx and home goods

Trim them regularly, claw caps are available if you feel like they’d be worth trying, give them lots of alternative options to scratch and put them where you notice them clawing unsafe stuff

That’s the plan! Planning on putting some cat scratchers on the couch arms to redirect her to a more positive route. I’m also going to put a few in places that I’d might worry about as well
