The best thing that I ever learned with my reactive dog is to give him space. He lets me know what he is and isn’t comfortable with and we go from there. We went from sitting far away on the other side of the street from another dog, to walking in tandem with them, to walking way behind them on the same side, and now we can walk just a little bit behind. He trusts me to keep him away from aggressive dogs/triggers, and I trust him to communicate with me instead of just freaking out lol
Of course! It can be really hard to have a reactive dog, but I’m always so happy when I see people that are asking questions and willing to put in the work to help them🤗 I really hope that your pup is able to feel more relaxed and secure. I would definitely recommend looking into the Bubble Method, as well as thinking about how your dog is motivated (food, praise/affection, task completion etc.) and then incorporating that into daily life training if you haven’t already
thank you :) yah hes vv food motivated, we found him as a stray so hes also a good bit food possessive (we feed him away from our other dogs and it helps a lot) and he gets rlly excited when training, to where he’ll nip and jump up on us because hes full of energy if we’re doing smthn with treats lol, we redirect him with toys and have been trying to teach him down (laying down) and off when he jumps up. ill hafta look up the bubble method! thank you sm again :)
