Let’s see what finance people think about this because I can’t stop thinking about it. I’ve become so pessimistic about everything lately and it sucks
I learned the median European has more wealth than the median American. This pissed me off because they have a better quality of life, walkable cities, 35 hour work weeks, better benefits, etc. And we say well at least we’re richer. I GUESS NOT.

It might be true that European have higher median net worth but Americans have higher disposable income (after adjusting for price differences between countries, government cash transfers and taxes) than most countries. It’s important to note that net worth is dependent not only on how much you earn but also how much you save and invest and how much you borrow. None of this is to say that inequality and net worth don’t matter but Americans could learn to plan out their finances a little more

If you’ve ever been to Europe for a meaningful span of time outside of the tourist bubble you’d know that the degree of consumption and material goods available to a European citizen is far below that of Americans. Not sure what metric this is using
