1 it’s a great thing to be scared. Credit can ruin your life. 2 BUT if you use it responsibly it can help to start building credit early. You shouldn’t get into the habit of opening and closing cards, THAT would mess your credit. Maybe in 6 months or a year revisit it. You can literally put like your weekly coffee or lunch on it as long as you pay it off at the end of the month in full. Or you can literally pay it off as you use it. There is a max but there typically isn’t a minimum.
Credit is scary cuz they’re IOU’s, but the entire world runs on credit. Most office buildings, corporations take out loans for and only pay the monthly interest, never planning to actually pay them off. It can be a different way of thinking about money. That said, NEVER EVER carry a month to month balance on a credit card. Pay it off in full, it’s stupidly expensive if you don’t have the money to do so. And if you don’t have the money to pay it off this month, next month looks even worse.
