Why pay property tax on house but not pay tax on investment portfolio? 200k house taxed at 2% you loose 4k a year. 200k portfolio... you just make 7% a year...

Because 1) property is a more directly useful resource and we can justify charging a premium for it (if you don’t like it sell your land and buy stocks) and 2) real estate has so many other tax benefits over equities so there’s pros and cons
