If men & women swapped bodies (hormones, brains, personalities unchanged), would crime rates stay higher for men, or would women’s crime rates rise? Is crime mostly biological (testosterone) or social (diff gender role upbringings)?
#poll
Men still commit more (bio cause)
Women’s rates rise (social cause)
Crime levels even out
Too complex to say
Depends on type of crime

I think they would slowly get to even out for about 50 years or so then flip in womens direction.

You said hormones wouldn’t change, but testosterone is a factor you’re testing? Testosterone is a hormone.

I agree that long vs short term would probably have a different answer

Exactly, I’m asking if testosterone itself is a key reason men commit more crime. So if women were put into male bodies, would crime stay high (because of testosterone) or drop (because it’s mostly socialization)?

I understand what you’re going for, but I’m confused by the phrasing of the question. You said “hormones, brains, personalities unchanged.” It sounds like this means, for example, a woman’s brain (with her personality and hormones) would be in a man’s body. In that case, she still has lower T and was socialized as a woman, BUT gains the social position of a man. Neither her socialization nor her hormones are changing in this male body — she just gains power

So how is that testing testosterone differences or socialization, when both those factors are remaining linked and static?

Not trying to be combative here, truly just trying to understand! I tend to take things like this pretty literally, and from the phrasing, I am just confused

No I apologize I worded it poorly

I worded it poorly, but the hormones do change because if they didn’t change, then we would just be studying the social aspect of it.
