Somewhere in between. I can appreciate the well made movie and interesting plot but it’s not my personal favorite. I’ve seen it maybe twice and that’s enough for me

Visually beautiful movies, but they really rub me the wrong way because they play into the white savior trope

For a movie that was one of the highest grossing movies of all time (even though it’s not anymore), I feel like it had little to no cultural impact

From a CGI standpoint, I recall the first movie being a feat of its time. At least it sure felt like that as a viewer.

It’s wrong for me to not like shitty things in media?

Yeah it was a fun movie? What’s wrong with it?

It’s crazy that you would have your brain turned off for a movie like avatar, it gives me the vibes that it’s trying to say something so I’d prefer to actively think while watching, and that goes for most movies. All art has some sort of message, whether that be intentional or not

And you didn’t read it before?

You probably wouldn’t because you don’t sound like someone who reads into the messaging of art you consume, regardless of how left or right leaning the message is

As far as I can tell, you’re upset I didn’t like a trope in this movie because you don’t believe it’s there regardless of having never watched it, though I honestly don’t think watching it would change anything for you. What am I missing?

It really feels like you’re only a bit upset ab this and you just want to argue tbh

Cool, well I really dislike arguments purely for the sake of argumentation (which I think you’re doing regardless of what you say because talking with you’s like talking to an angry brick wall) so I’m gonna head out here. Have the night/evening you deserve

One of the big talking points among critics is "it's just Dances With Wolves in space" (although it's much more like Last Samurai, plot-structure-wise.) The general plot beats of "outsider travels to indigenous people's home as a colonial ambassador, but ends up learning their ways and turning against his original people"

Which as a story structure has a lot of room for valid criticism, but I don't think "this basic story has been done before" is grounds to say that something is bad. Hell, half of Shakespeare's plays were remakes of existing stories
