Growing up, did you have a no-condiments phase?
If not, then what sangwidge could you best tolerate eating plain repeatedly? That is, just meat and bread
I’m still pretty much in that phase. I like a handful of condiments, but not really any of those are ones that people would usually have with a burger, hot dog, or sandwich. The one exception would be barbecue sauce for a bbq chicken sandwich

The first time I had a burger it was literally just a plain patty between two buns and it tasted so ass, but everyone around me loved burgers so I just pretended to like it bc I figured I just wasn’t registering something
