Is anyone else’s parents like this: “If you’re living in my house and benefiting from my resources, then you don’t get independence “

I dont have my license still for this exact reason. My mother pays to uber me to campus (15 mins away ~$20-$30 a ride) instead of letting me get my license just to keep me stuck at home and if I ask to take the test im 'ungrateful' for her generosity of paying for the rides

when I got my license, they refused to add me to insurance because of the price & restricted me from working outside my major as well. by the time I got a job related to my major it had already been two years without driving practice. I wanted to refresh my driving skills, but I legally can’t do that because you need to be insured on a car policy. Even to practice. If you have a permit, all you need is an adult in the car vs your name being on the policy.

Idk why tf you got downvoted OP, but that’s seriously abusive on your parents’ parts (1 and OP)

No I get you lol not much to be done abt it unfort Im letting my mom pay me through school so I can hopefully save up to go no contact after. I honestly appreciate you saying it tho bc a lot of people just resort to 'atleast youre not being abused!' As in getting hit not understanding that theres levels to ts 😭💀

I’d imagine they would if they could??? We’re in America, very few places are fully walkable, by limiting their ability to drive, they’ve lost a lot of options for moving out on their own safely. I know from experience as someone who’s working through severe driving anxiety that not being able to drive often basically makes you a shut-in

No it is that deep. Yes, it’s obvious their mom’s fucked up, yes it’s obvious they need to move out as soon as they can. How do you not realize you’re basically calling them an idiot? You’re being an asshole
