I support it but only in certain cases. Allowing everyone to just die because they want to feels like giving up on them. It should be used when all treatment options have been exhausted

Problem for me is that medically assisted suicide can be cheaper than the medical expenses someone would rack up if they stayed alive so there can be an incentive for insurance to move people towards the suicide option cause that saves money

It depends on the wording of the law. Should just be for terminal or severe chronic illness or for the very old. Not access to medical suicide for everyone like some people claim this is.

It’s only allowed when someone has a terminal diagnosis. There’s nuance in what you want bc exhausting all possible treatment might put someone through more suffering only to still die, it would just draw it out. Also have to weigh like, cost and affordability in a country that doesn’t have socialized healthcare

So what about for mental health? Some people that people suffering from mental illness should be allowed to get medically assisted suicide. Do you believe it should only be for those suffering physical terminal illness?

I’m not trying to say what it should be, I’m just using like, the most common thing from places where it’s legal. I have chronic suicidal ideation, idk how I feel about it personally

I think it’d be wild to allow assisted suicide for mental illness and give up on them. It’ll just make for an even more bitter death knowing that no one truly gives a fuck if they die. Anyone who is a mandated reporter understands that the reporting is to help the person survive then thrive, not fucking die

i agree. as someone who has actually attemped before, telling depressed people "you can actually just kill yourself" definitely feels like giving up on them. we should be promoting treatment, and in this day and age we have way more than just antidepressants. we have so many different types of therapy (cbt, dbt, groups), programs like iop and php, long term residential care, rTMS, ketamine, EMDR, neurofeedback, ECT etc

So true. I think it is needed for progressive illnesses like dementia, but I don’t trust our system to implement it properly.
