Saw someone on social media say “does anyone else immediately lose respect for someone the second you see pronouns listed in their bio?” Am i the only one who doesn’t understand the issue here?

What kind of question is this? Why did you phrase it that way? I understand the issue, I just disagree with their position because it’s transphobia

I phrased it that way because i simply don’t understand what issue people have with pronouns being listed in peoples bios…..

Like, why is it such a problem that someone has “he/him” or “he/her” or “they/them” in their bio?

And why do people feel the need to block people that have their pronouns in their bio?

I feel like you’ve had your head under a rock if you don’t understand this. But very simply putting pronouns in your bio signals support for trans people because it normalizes explicitly stating pronouns instead of assuming them. So this person is losing respect because it signals being liberal and supporting trans people

Also, what’s the issue with supporting trans people? They’re people too, yes? Just like me and you. They deserve respect as well

You would have to ask a conservative. I’m not going to make the argument for not supporting trans people for you because I do support them

I just don’t see why it has to be political in the first place. It’s just insane to me

As in, I don’t see it as an issue, but they do

I’m also autistic and was aware of this lol, you don’t need autism to be unaware of things many others are aware of. The “issue” with supporting trans people, from the perspective of transphobes, is rooted mainly in fear I think. Trans people inherently go against convention by questioning their gender, something most societies tend to view as binary and concrete. Along with this, by viewing gender as “biological fact” and not something that’s fluid, it makes it easier to discriminate-

It doesn’t mean they don’t deserve respect 🤷🏻‍♂️ they’re human beings just like you and me.

-against women or whoever the right views as women since they can never change their status to be those in power: cis men. So, by going against this core belief in binary and unchanging gender, it rattles their view of reality and that is extremely scary. So, it’s easier to simply deny and suppress trans people, no matter the cost, even sacrificing any kindness and empathy they might have

Yup, you’re correct. Transphobes aren’t logical though. As I said, their position is mainly rooted in fear of change, not any scientific proof. At least, no scientific proof from within the past decade or two
