If college were free, students should have to take a certain set of classes encompassing all majors (maths, stem, humanities, etc), regardless of their specific major

Sure they’re bullshit classes but I do believe that it rounds your knowledge and brings you to be more of a critical thinker. I had to take 2 English classes, a statistics class, and a public speaking class as a nursing major. Lord knows I don’t apply them but it’s just a way of keeping the mind active and honing those skills.

That’s literally general education requirements. Most if not all universities require you to have the basic math, science, English, history, and social studies classes. And they make you pay for every single class even if it has nothing to do with your major.

Half of these classes build soft skills like how to write an email and connect your thoughts on paper.
