Stop making the government and education system parent kids, PARENTS should be parenting not the oval office, some kids are mature and literate enough at 13 for looser restrictions some should not have access at all. Parents need to do their job because developing humans are not black and white enough for most age based legislature

Listen people, I know that your kneejerk reaction is “social media is bad let’s ban it”, but take a second to consider what that would actually mean. Do you really want to give the government that much authority over our personal lives? And how would they enforce that law without widespread and invasive surveillance of the general public? Fucking think for a moment jesus.

how the hell is this 50 50? the government banning anything for a particular group is never going to be a good idea, and even if it was in this case, there’s 0 way to effectively enforce this without cutting privacy out of most of the things you can do on the internet. A revision to laws around content moderation? Sure. A clearer definition of when companies are at fault and when parents are? Definitely. A ban of social media generally? no fucking way.

Being tossed into social media uninformed and unprotected at all at any age is bad. Parents exist to prepare and protect their kids.

The fact that yes is winning is really really concerning.

How would that even be enforced when everyone lies about their age and some people use their parents account and their parents don’t care at all and let them I really don’t think they should be on social media and it definitely shouldn’t be normalized like it is currently

the government is tired of people not parenting their kids lmfao. But seriously, if parents actually did their job of filtering content + teaching their kids to be social media safe and maybe monitoring some of what they do-I don’t think the government would need to step in

The government doesn’t need to step in. This kind of overreach is beyond the limits of a society that values liberty.
