I think pedophilia has a notable place in religious communities (and that is a literal trend not me villainizing religions before anyone jumps me) but I dont think pedophilia as a broader general issue is strictly attributed to this particular closed system if that makes sense?

The pedophilia seems to be more about power and authority than anything, similar to how politicians and celebrities seem to as-well. Not dismissing it at all, but the religion is not the issue, as if they followed their own tenets they are supposed to be celibate

It moreso has to do with like, any group that has high control hierarchy. Oftentimes pedophilia isn’t like, outright attraction to children, as much as it is the unchecked power over someone with very little way to defend themselves or retaliate. Ofc it bleeds into all areas of sexuality, which is where purity culture comes into play, it’s a broad sweeping but intimate area to exert control. So it comes up in almost any extremist conservative religious movement. In the US that’s Christianity.

Right. In any power system, there will be those who abuse that power. We see it in schools, courtrooms, families, hospitals… I would also argue that the protection of children is the major tenet being broken in these cases, not celibacy.

And they’re bailed out by their communities or moved to different ones and allowed, by the church, to continue their bullshit. It’s disgusting how churches defend paedophiles.
