It moreso has to do with like, any group that has high control hierarchy. Oftentimes pedophilia isn’t like, outright attraction to children, as much as it is the unchecked power over someone with very little way to defend themselves or retaliate. Ofc it bleeds into all areas of sexuality, which is where purity culture comes into play, it’s a broad sweeping but intimate area to exert control. So it comes up in almost any extremist conservative religious movement. In the US that’s Christianity.

According to everything I’ve seen in a quick google search, the rates of kid diddling among catholic priests vs everyone else shows no statistical difference. In fact it’s equal or lower that other contexts where adults interact with children, like summer camps or daycare etc. I’m not even Christian but I think the smear campaign against priests is crazy

no, but i have my own experiences from the church to back that up. the church protects predators, abusers, alcoholics/drug addicts, cheaters.. all under the “we’re all dirty sinners” bullshit. somehow making their sin everyone’s problem.

So are you speaking about your own personal church or every church across the country/ world? Because it sounds like you’re making a pretty sweeping generalization. Just like in the real world there are more good people who hate abuse than bad people who allow it to happen.

We can take a look at JWs. Their elder guidebooks explicitly state to contact the legal team of watchtower for guidance, not the authorities. Not to mention the two-witness ruling that’s been held up for years. UN experts have had to basically beg the vatican to do something about catholic CSA and coverups. There are constantly youth pastors from various sects of the cults being found harming kids and being bailed out by the community. It’s disgusting and rampant.

I grew up in the Catholic Church and I had a completely opposite experience. Adults had to go through anti abuse classes before ever being near kids. There was a priest who was (falsely) accused of having a sexual relationship with an adult female and he was put on leave and investigated immediately. I’m sorry if you had some bad experiences but I’ve never heard any “predatory nonsense”. Everyone I’ve met is angry and embarrassed about the people who are actually abusers

I agree that it’s disgusting, but my main point is that abuse within the church is not higher than any other organization that involves adults and children. What some priests and pastors have done is horrible and needs to be taken care of by the law. I just think that some people have an agenda because they disagree with Christianity.
